Oscar Cullmann on Baptism in the New Testament forthcoming

I have just received permission from SCM-Canterbury Press to reproduce Oscar Cullmann's 1950 monograph Baptism in the New Testament. I hope to have the work on-line in PDF format within a week or so. Many thanks to Jenny Willis, SCM Press's Rights and Permissions Manager.

At last, some sensible comments about Harry Potter!

My wife and I were very impressed by this blog entry on the on-going Harry Potter debate. To declare our hand we are currently enjoying the latest offering from JKR, but don't allow our children to read it (the oldest is only two and has trouble sitting still through The Very Hungry Caterpillar!).

Beginning with Moses Blog

I was pleased to find that http://www.beginningwithmoses.org/ has a blog. The site has similar aims to my own, though with a narrow focus on Biblical Theology. The site hosts a number of excellent articles and book reviews - well worth a visit.

Donald Wiseman on Problems in Daniel - on-line

Sooner that I promised, Donald Wiseman's excellent article is now available:

D. J. Wiseman, "Some Historical Problems in the Book of Daniel," D. J. Wiseman, ed., Notes on Some Problems in the Book of Daniel. London: The Tyndale Press, 1965. pp. 9-18.

Also W J Martin's article is ready:

W. J. Martin, "The Hebrew of Daniel," D. J. Wiseman, ed., Notes on Some Problems in the Book of Daniel. London: The Tyndale Press, 1965. pp. 28-30.

Both are in PDF. As soon as I get copyright clearance I hope to publish the rest of the articles from this volume. I will keep you posted.

More bombs in London

Just returned safely from London - the rejesus.co.uk website AGM was moved to the URC headquarters as Tavistock Square is still closed. I only learned of the latest bombs as I walked back to Charing Cross Station. I was glad I followed by wife's advice that I avoid buses and tubes today. Please pray for those injured - events are still unclear at the moment.

Donald Wiseman on Problems in Daniel - forthcoming

I received a letter today from Professor Donald Wiseman, giving me permission to republish his article "Some Historical Problems in the Book of Daniel" (1965). I hope to have the article on-line within a couple of weeks.

Something for Hebrew scholars!

I have just uploaded the following monograph:

D. Winton Thomas, "The Prophet" in the Lachish Ostraca. London: The Tyndale Press, 1946. Pbk. pp.28.

It has a lot of Hebrew text in it, but should still be accessible to those with no Hebrew at all (like me).

I was surprised to find some of the Tyndale monographs selling on-line for up to £25 - this one could cost you up to £7.13. I found it encouraging - people still want to read them.

Thoughts on the London Bombings

A number of people have contacted me to say that they are praying for the people of London following the suicide bombings here. I wanted to thank you all for your concern. Although no one I know was injured or killed in the blasts I often visit the Churches Together in England Offices in Tavistock Square for meetings - only 20 yards away from where the bus was blown up. I will be there next Thurday for the AGM of Rejesus

As to the reasons for the bombings, Daniel Scott conducted a seminar in Australia which goes further than anything I have heard on the news to explain them. I commend the document to you:

Jihad From the Qur'an by Daniel Scott.

Fifteen Campbell Memorial Lectures now available

I have just loaded two more lectures:

The Rev. Alan Stibbs, M.A., The Word of Faith Which We Preach. London: Westminster Chapel, 1957. Pbk. pp.16.

Donald J. Wiseman, O.B.E., M.A., F.S.A., The Word of God for Abraham and Today. London: Westminster Chapel, 1959. Pbk. pp.20.

Apparently there was a 16th lecture, by Dr Martyn Lloyd-Jones, given in 1964. It was republished in another book, so I am trying to find out whether the copyright was renewed. I also need to locate a copy of the lecture. For the time being, however, I consider the collection complete.

Christian Origins Blog

Last night I came across Peter Kirby's blog, which seems to have similar aims to biblicalstudies.org.uk:
Christian Origins is dedicated to publishing articles distinguished by their attention to detail and reasoned approach. A gamut of viewpoints are presented in essays by laymen and scholars.

The site hosts a number of interesting articles which I will be linking to shortly and invites scholars and laymen to contribute their own material on a range of topics. Interestingly it also displays Greek text without the use of PDF. I have asked Peter how he does this as it would be very useful on my own site if it has cross-browser support.

I Howard Marshall's "Eschatology and the Parables" available

I have just uploaded: I.H. Marshall, Eschatology and the Parables. London: The Tyndale Press, 1963. Pbk. pp.48.

I am grateful to Professor Marshall for proof-reading the scanned monograph and updating some of the material.
